While doing your best is commendable, it cannot pay for your sins. Working hard does not satisfy the requirement of God's righteousness. Only Jesus Christ can do that.
"For He (God) has made Him who knew no sin(Jesus Christ) to be sin for us; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him."
